Maker space : Dokk1 Library, Aarhus
Some libraries offer a fully equipped workshop space for local artists and library visitors to use to their own needs. Dokk1, the largest public library in Aarhus, Denmark, puts creative learning at the heart of its services and offers both children and adults multiple public spaces in which they can try out new creative skills. They include spaces in which people can try out new technology and digital aids, as well as creative workshop spaces with regular arts crafts sessions for children. Most eye-catching is the MakerLab, an experimental space that offers all library visitors access to 3D printers, laser cutters, vinyl cutters, and vacuum forms, as well as materials for sewing, graphic crafts and DIY. This space is open a few days a week for people to work on their own projects, but they also run organised events, such as Repair Cafes or creative maker workshops. It offers library users a space to become artists in their own right.
