As an upcoming artist in today’s modern world, it can be difficult to make a name for yourself and get your work noticed. With the rise of social media, it’s easier than ever to share your work with the world, but it can also be overwhelming to compete with the sheer volume of content out there.

Upcoming artists often face a number of challenges when trying to make it in the art world. One of the biggest struggles is finding the time and resources to create. Many artists are juggling multiple jobs and responsibilities, making it difficult to find the time and energy to focus on their art. Additionally, the cost of materials and equipment can be prohibitively expensive, making it difficult to produce quality work.

Another challenge upcoming artists face is getting their work seen. With so much content out there, it can be hard to stand out and get noticed. It’s important to find ways to promote your work, such as through social media, art shows, and other events.

Finally, upcoming artists often struggle with self-doubt and imposter syndrome. It can be difficult to stay motivated and believe in yourself when you’re surrounded by so much competition. It’s important to remember that everyone has their own unique style and voice, and to focus on developing your own craft.

According to a study conducted by the Freelands Foundation in 2016, most artists in the UK are earning an average wage of £10,000 or less per year an indications that all of these struggles are ever so present today (Freelands Foundation 2016). What can we do as a community to overcome these challenges? Which of these hurdles are you facing as an artist? Which have you managed to overcome and which are you still facing? Starting a conversation has always been the first step to find answers to these questions.
